This file is part of the vncmr package ver 2.2 (15-Jul-1996)

vncmr 1.0: original version; released 1991 by Cuong Nguyen
            <cuong@haydn.stanford.edu>.

vncmr 2.0: released 20-May-1996 by Werner Lemberg
            <a7621gac@awiuni11.bitnet> with permission by Cuong.

    Changes: files renamed/file names shortened to 8 characters to allow
                for use with MSDOS file system.

                all CM fonts (which make sense for Vietnamese) are now
                supported, e.g. italic or small caps.

                heavy reformatting of all files to a more vertical
                structure.

                changed roman.mf: should replace Knuth's roman.mf; if called
                with `vn := 1' Vietnamese extensions are built. The same
                holds for the other driver files (textit.mf, ...)

                vncode.mf re-sorted; VISCII characters 2, 5, 6, 20, 25, 30
                moved to MF positions 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. IMHO accent
                characters are more important than Greek uppercase
                letters---both TeX and LaTeX can easily map the characters
                to the appropriate input encoding.

                almost every diacritic has been modified. Most notable
                changes are:

                    the form of the hook_above is different to allow
                    better rendering for lower resolutions.

                    the horn of u_horn and U_horn can be raised if you
                    comment out the `u_horn_low' definition at the beginning
                    of vndiacri.mf. This will align the horn's tail with the
                    right upper end of the u.

                great efforts have been undertaken to assure the same shape
                of the diacritics regardless of the position. This has been
                achieved by creating accents first and saving them as
                pictures, then composing the Vietnamese characters.

                due to the usage of pictures the amount of time to create a
                Vietnamese font has almost been halved compared to ver. 1.0 .

                correct italic correction values to incorporate the
                diacritics also.

                kerning tables added for Vietnamese characters.

                depth values corrected (note that height and depth values
                are rather large and mostly uniform).

                Copyright changed to GNU Public Licence.

    Bug fixes:  vn_a.mf (now vnlar.mf):
                    the letter a^` erroneously used breve_space instead of
                    circumflex_space for the circumflex.

                vn_U.mf (now vnuur.mf):
                    the right serif of the first character of this file (for
                    monospaced fonts, e.g. cmtt10) was always too long.
                    Starting with the second character the serif had the
                    correct length. The reason for this strange behaviour
                    was that the macro `adjust_fit' (globally) changes the
                    value of `cap_jut' after its first call in the first
                    character.

vncmr 2.1:  released 20-Jun-1996

    New: vietnam.sty contributed by Dung Ta Quang
                <dung@rbg.informatik.th-darmstadt.de>. Slightly modified to
                make it input-encoding independent. Will always load ET5
                font encoding.

    Changes: height of hook increased (suggested by To-Thanh Binh
                <binh@infaut.et.uni-magdeburg.de>).

                I was a bit too fast in defining OT5. This will be done by
                the LaTeX2e team. Thus I rename it temporarily to ET5
                (experimental OT5) until a standard encoding has been
                accepted.

                cpviscii.def and cpvscii.def renamed to viscii.def and
                vscii.def respectively.

                I'm now following the Unicode way in naming the Vietnamese
                accents; i.e. regardless of the place where the accent will
                be written---an acute is an acute etc. This causes the
                following redefinitions:

                    \vnacute -> \'
                    \vngrave -> \`
                    \vntilde -> \~
                    \vndot   -> \d
                    \vnhook  -> \h      (this is a new fake accent)

                the intersection point between horn and O/o will now be
                computed with `intersectionpoint' :-) The horns of U/O
                and u'o respectively have now the same height.
                `u_horn_low' has been removed. It was nonsense.

                some kernings added.

vncmr 2.2: released 15-Jul-1996

    Changes: All fonts are now real, i.e. vncmr10.mf et al. do exist.
                    This greatly simplifies the handling of vncmr fonts
                    since a special treatment is no longer necessary in
                    MakeTeXPK etc.

                Directory structure changed to be TDS compliant.

    Bug fixes:  ET5enc.def:
                    due to a bug in LaTeX2e
                    \DeclareTextComposite{...}{...}{...}{0} always fails.
                    The problematic definition has been replaced with a
                    workaround. (Van Hanh Nguyen <nguyen@rhrk.uni-kl.de>)

                Driver files roman.mf etc. renamed to vnroman.mf etc. to
                    preserve Knuth's copyright.

                capital O and U characters (with all sorts of accents) had a
                    height of vnx_height# instead of vncap_height#. (Joerg
                    Knappen)
